This baked ziti is layered almost like a lasagna to ensure every bite has enough creamy ricotta, stringy mozzarella and tangy tomato sauce But the key to its success comes from undercooking the pasta during the initial boil so it stays perfectly al dente, even after a trip to the oven Heavy cream is added to prevent the ricotta from becoming grainy or dry during baking, letting it be its most. How to Make Baked Ziti This recipe is a pretty basic version, but everyone who makes baked ziti has their own unique tricks and twists to it. Some vary the cheeses, some the meat, some make meatless versions, and some people leave out the tomato sauce for a truly cheese-tastic casserole. The cheesy, comforting recipe got its name from Brenda's son, who often requests his great grandma's baked ziti for special meals.

Baked ziti step by step

  1. Place hamburger meat and sausage in a frying pan... then cook until well..which means no longer pink.
  2. After meat is brown & done strain your meat...try to get rid of as much oil as possible then set aside.
  3. Now place meat back in the frying pan..set aside....
  4. Next fill a lot with water add oil and salt bring to a boil..add enough water to cover noodles.
  5. Once water starts boiling add ziti noodles..boil for about minutes or until tender and done.
  6. Once noodles are done, drain and set aside.
  7. Now back to the meat. add any seasonings u want except for salts..I recommend lots of herbs...garlic,onion, oreango and etc.
  8. Now add sauces I recommended for u above and mix...start cooking again so everything will sink in.. next add rocatta cheese to the meat mixture then stir incorporating everything..
  9. Now take out your baking pan grease with alil Olive oil then add noodles then the meat...next add mozzarella cheese.
  10. Now mix making sure everything blends in well...smooth out ziti adding more cheese to the top,now sprinkle your grated parmesan on top.
  11. Put ziti in oven covered...let ziti bake until all cheese is melted...Take the ziti out when you feel your ready.
  12. All done.

But in Great Grandma's day, the ziti served a different purpose. Baked ziti can become dry for several reasons. When assembling the dish, be sure to cover the pasta with enough of the sauce so that the noodles don't dry out. Also, to prevent moisture from evaporating while cooking, cover the dish tightly with foil. Baked Ziti is a classic baked pasta dish.
